Summary Supports the Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CTL) in collaboration with the Baptist Cancer Center - Malignant Hematology & Transplant Program, by performing the following duties:
- CTL operations oversight
- Implementing CTL goals, policies and procedures
- Coordinating the activities of the CTL staff
- Serving as a technical resource for the processing of cellular and immune-effector products
Oversite management of applicable federal, state and regulating agency requirements and accreditation for the CTL program including but not limited to FACT, CAP, AABB, and CLIA.
Responsibilities - Provides oversight of the Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CTL) in collaboration with the Baptist Cancer Center - Malignant Hematology & Transplant (BCC-MHT) Program
- Participates in quality and process improvement initiatives for the CTL
- Prepares, reviews, approves, and implements QM policies and SOPs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and regulating agencies including but not limited to FACT, CAP, AABB, and CLIA standards
- Develops systems for auditing CTL activities to confirm compliance with written polices and SOPs
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary for auditing; occurrence reporting; deviation management, including complaints, adverse events, and reactions; corrective and preventive action; and process improvement
- Provides oversight of therapeutic cell processing procedures including the assignment, monitoring and supervision of work to ensure compliance with departmental SOPs and applicable federal, state and regulating agencies requirements including health/safety and patient confidentiality
- Maintains laboratory equipment including evaluation, acquisition, validation, and maintenance. Participates in the development and implementation of new cell processing methods.Maintains documentation according to department standards.
- Manages computer systems to access clinical laboratory results, produce worksheets on components processed and other data collection or analysis activities. Implements new computer systems.
- Ensures adequate inventory of reagents and supplies within operating budget.
- Notifies the Assistant Director for Transfusion Medicine and/or BCC-MHT program leadership of identified trends or issues
- Assist in coordination of accreditation and vendor inspections in collaboration with BCC-MHT program leadership
- Participant in meetings associated with the BCC-MHT program
- Maintains Quality Management Plan and required components as mandated by FACT
- Serve as a liaison with Clinical Research Coordinators for research trials within the department
- CTL personnel oversight including but not limited to hiring, training, supervising, counseling, and competency evaluation of staff.
- Performs processing, receipt, release and issue per standard operating procedures on an as needed basis for both allogeneic and autologous hematopoietic progenitor cell, immune effector cell, mononuclear cell and gene therapy products obtained via apheresis, bone marrow and cord blood.
Requirements, Preferences and Experience Minimum Required Experience:Advanced technical and managerial skills as acquired by 8-10 years' experience in medical technology, at least 3 years in supervisor capacity in blood banking.
Preferred/Desired Experience:5-10 years with Cellular Therapy Collection
Minimum Required Education:Bachelor's degree and completion of AMA approved program for medical technology.
Minimum Required Licensure and Certification:- Tennessee Department of Public Health Med Tech General Supervisor License
- ASCP or equivalent certification
Preferred/Desired Certification:Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB)
ASCP or equivalent
