Summary

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) reflects the mission, vision, and values of Baptist Memorial Health Care, adheres to the organization's code of ethics and corporate compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The APRN functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team to provide high quality, cost-effective care to patients within scope of practice and within medical staff credentialing/delineation of privileges.

Responsibilities

Direct Care:

Coordinates care among multiple healthcare providers and assures frequent and clear communication with patients, families, and/or the healthcare team.

Provides comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and families.

Nurses and Nursing Practice:

Acts as a resource for clinical staff in the practice setting.

Consults with leadership in assessment, problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluating clinical/system issues.

Identifies and participates in quality-improvement initiatives including audits and direct observations.

Leads multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs).

Exerts influence through role modeling, consultation, and education with other nurses and healthcare providers to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.

Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.

Promotes evidence-based policies, procedures, and guidelines using advanced clinical and specialty knowledge.

Participates in shared governance and system group and/or quality meetings to improve patient outcomes.

Identifies, plans, implements, and evaluates programs to assist staff engagement.

Provides clinical consultation and/or coaching for bedside nurses to advance successful performance of complex patient care interventions.

Mentors nurses in their professional development.

Organizations/Systems:

Leads quality improvement and safety initiatives based on gap assessments and data analysis.

Collects and analyzes patient data to document the impact of nursing practice on outcomes, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Develops plans and makes recommendations for cost effective use of time, materials, and other resources where possible.

Leads and/or collaborates with an interprofessional team to assess, plan, and implement evidence-based practice initiatives and may lead and/or be members of quality improvement projects.

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Experience:

Minimum: 3 years hospital nursing experience required

Preferred: Experience as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

Education:

Minimum: Master's degree in Nursing

Licensure:

Current APRN license in state of practice

Certification:

Current APRN board certification in area of practice (FNP, ACNP, Adult-gerontology, CNS...)
