Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for the coordination and management of all quality initiatives across the continuum of care, including surveillance, data abstraction and analysis, internal and regulatory reporting, staff education and collaboration with all disciplines and departments. Directs the development, implementation and evaluation of the Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement/Patient Safety Plan. Provides leadership, direction and mentoring to the Quality Department staff. Maintains a strong focus on performance improvement activities to include root cause analysis, risk assessments and outbreak investigation.

Responsibilities

  • E 1. Performs and directs quality initiatives that align with strategic goals of the organization. Notifies System Quality Director and entity Leadership of any identified trends or issues.
  • E 2. Proactively and consistently monitors the healthcare environment to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and policies and procedures. Addresses deficiencies proactively by providing feedback and guidance to leaders regarding quality/patient safety/risk issues.
  • E 3. Participates in quality and process improvement initiatives addressing defined quality issues at both the entity and system level.
  • E 4. Collaborates with Employee Health on safety and exposure issues.
  • E 5. Demonstrates the ability to build trusting collaborative relationships with multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care needs. Leads and/or actively participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • E 6. Demonstrates skill in applying evidence-based practice guidelines and regulatory standards (CMS, TJC, DNV-GL, OSHA, etc.) when: assessing the environment; observing patient care activities and processes and developing/revising policies and procedures.
  • E 7. Acts as the subject matter expert and leader regarding quality issues. Develops and revises policies and procedures that are consistent with system guidelines, evidence-based guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • E 8. Directs the development of goals and objectives based upon the annual risk assessment results. Participates in performance improvement projects to address these goals
  • E 9. Develops implements and evaluates the Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement/Patient Safety Plan.
  • E 10. Demonstrates initiative in professional development and continuing education. Attends professional meetings and educational offerings.
  • E 11. Trains and mentors Quality Department members.
  • E 12. Participates in all regulatory and compliance projects. Facilitates regular rounds on units to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • E 13. Directs the preparation of quality/improvement initiatives data. Presents and discusses pertinent data at various committee meetings.
  • E 14. Prepares and presents educational workshops, lectures, discussions or one-to-one instruction on quality initiatives. Provides community education on quality topics.
  • E 15. Understands, applies and supports departmental/entity/system policies, guidelines, procedures and standards.
  • E 16. Exhibits efficiency, competency and professionalism that promotes a positive work environment.
  • E 17. Directs the development of the quality department's operating budget and capital expenses, as appropriate. Monitors and analyzes financial reports and justifies variances.


Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

Minimum: Driver's License required. Current licensure as registered nurse or medical technologist required. BSN required. Master's Degree (MSN,MPH) preferred

Experience

Minimum: Five (5) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse required. Minimum of five years of experience in quality preferred. Management experience required.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Preferred: ACLS

Minimum: RN;BLS CERTIFICATION WITHIN 14 DAYS OF HIRE

Special Skills

Minimum:
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of staff, management and physicians. Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgement is a professional area. Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of workflow.
