Technologist-Surgical Lead/CV Trainer

Summary

Functions under the AST guidelines for performance. Handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Assists surgical team during operation/procedure by arranging, inventorying and maintaining sterile set up for operation, and passes items as needed. Assists in preparation of surgical suite, moving patients, and in cleaning. Provides aid in exposure, homeostasis, and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out safe operation with optimal results for the patient within AST standards.

Responsibilities

• Assists in performance of procedures for the surgical patient in a manner consistent with established policies and procedures.
• Assists in providing intraoperative care.
• Provides and utilizes equipment and supplies based on patient needs in a safely and adequate manner.
• Performs activities that demonstrate technical accountability.
• Identifies learning needs of the surgical team and coordinates in-services with educator/manager.
• Evaluate and updates preference cards on bi-annual basis and as needed.
• Reviews instrument trays with SPD manager on bi-annual basis and as needed.
• Implements and develops appropriate procedure plans.
• Completes assigned goals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

Minimum: Graduate of accredited surgical technician program

Experience

Minimum: 3 years' healthcare surgical technician experience

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Minimum: Holds current national certification through appropriate/approved accreditation body or 15 years of experience as a surgical technician; BLS within 14 days of date of hire

Training

Preferred: computer literacy
