Summary The Coordinator of Basic Needs will be dedicated to cultivating a sense of belonging by connecting students with the resources and support needed to thrive at Baptist Health Sciences University. The Coordinator is the primary lead on initiatives and systems designed to support students struggling with and attaining basic needs, in both acute and chronic circumstances. The Coordinator's work will include direct intervention with individual students and working within institutional systems to identify, assist, and assess trends and gaps related to basic needs. The Coordinator will form partnerships with local, state, and federal organizations to meet students' basic needs to maximize student success programming. Under the general direction of the Director of Faith and Service. Responsible for 1 shift/8 hours/day, 5 days a week. The incumbent is subject to hours beyond the normal work day.
Responsibilities E1.Consult with students who have mental and physical health challenges and coordinate both on and off-campus referrals for necessary resources
E2Coordinate appropriate level of assistance for students in crisis with the BHSU Counselor, Director of Faith & Service, and/or other necessary referring agencies.
E3Consults and communicates with staff, students, and parents, or designated emergency contacts and assigned key campus partners regarding appropriate services, access, and care for students.
E4Provide linkage for students to various social services -city, state, and federal, including, but not limited to, food resources, housing, utility assistance, transportation, occupational training, Medicaid, and child support resources.
E5Develop and provide outreach programs (e.g. presentations, training, seminars, and workshops) on available services and resources for faculty, staff, and students.
E6 Work with the CARE Team to help maintain current procedures for assisting students in crisis. This includes ensuring that all department and college staff are trained in crisis management procedures.
E7 Prepares reports and studies containing findings and recommendations for the review to the Director of Faith and Service
Requirements, Preferences and Experience Bachelor's degree in related fields of Humanities; such as Behavioral Health, Social Work, and Public Health.
Two (2) years experience in college counseling and academic advising, student services, or similar experience in non-profit agencies with basic need mission or equivalent.
