Summary Works under the direct supervision of the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care services, while considering patient specific factors, through the prioritization and processing of medication orders, the preparing of medications for dispensing, distribution and stocking of patient care locations for subsequent drug administration. Performs data collections, assembly and interpretation for limited quality programs. Completes the knowledge-based program as assigned by Pharmacy Leadership. Through extensive training, the technician will provide the department of pharmacy with a special skill set. Technician will be developed and used to their full potential while redirecting pharmacist care back to direct patient care responsibilities. Responsibilities - Practices the Medication-Use Process: Procures, handles, prepares, distributes, charges/credits and disposes of medication safely and accurately.
- Manages own pharmacy practice effectively.
- Uses and maintains automation/equipment.
- Assists the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients.
- Provides education/training.
- Contributes to goals, programs and report cards for operational unit and entity.
- Processes and prepares sterile products for dispensing.
- Participates in inventory management.
- Completes assigned goals.
Requirements, Preferences and Experience Education Minimum: Skills in communicating clearly and effective use of standard English in written, oral and verbal format. Skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary to perform job duties.
Experience Minimum: Minimum of one year previous hospital experience involving medication distribution required; full time technician II within Baptist Corporation required; 6 month minimum as a full time technician at Baptist - Memphis required; previous experience with all Microsoft suite applications including word, publisher, power point and excel required; previous experience with pharmacy automation required.
Licensure, Registration, Certification Minimum: CPHT
Special Skills Minimum: Computer skills, typing skills, calculation skills, communication skills required.
Training Minimum: PTCB certification required; registration with the state board of pharmacy required. No formal coaching and counseling in 6 month preceding application to the program. Approval by Pharmacy Leadership and received and read the BMH TCT and/or High Risk Compounding policy; complete all didactic learning associated with the program; pass the continuing education assessment questions with greater than 70% accuracy. Received and completed the self-learning packet and practice exam. Completed the 1:1 supervised experience checklist. Completed the 1:1 supervised experience validation form. Completed the initial validation error log form. Received the VTC checking log. Pass the competency assessment exam with greater than 70% accuracy. Receive final approval from the Pharmacy Leadership. Complete all quality assurance aspects including but not limited to 3 month audit, 6 month audit, annual audit and TCT checking log.
