Summary Responsible for the supervision of key process areas in the Health Information Management department; responsible for assuring confidentiality and that patient records are completed in a timely manner; assures charts are available for continuity of care, research, and legal uses; assures patient records are complete, including timeliness and quality of documentation; develops and monitors processes/systems to assure timely and accurate reimbursement for hospital services and maintains certain statistical reports (daily and monthly).Incumbent is responsible for these functions at Baptist Memorial Hospital, eight (8) hours a day, five (5) days a week. Some overtime, shift coverage and callback is required. This position is under the general direction of the Director, Health Information Management.
Responsibilities 1.Supervises personnel by selecting, motivating, counseling and evaluating respective employees to assure management continuity within the department and to maintain a high quality of service in a cost effective manner, including executing performance improvement planning and monitoring time and attendance.
2.Assures patient records are complete, including timeliness and quality of documentation for patient care and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies; develops and monitors HIM processes/systems to assure timely and accurate reimbursement for hospital services.
3.Manages all general release of information activities to assure appropriate and timely release by handling all legal issues (including court appearances) and managing release of information activities to assure confidentiality of patient information and to meet customer needs including third party payors, attorneys, patients, physicians, etc.
4.Assists the medical staff, ancillary departments and administration in performing research and quality improvement studies; and collecting/gathering of hospital statistics.
5.Supervises clerical employees to assure records are available promptly for continuity of patient care, reimbursement, release of information, and quality improvement studies.
6.Assures all employees are adequately trained and oriented to policies/procedures of the EPF system and the HIM department.
7.Monitors work queues in the EPF system on a daily and/or weekly basis to assure workflow is carried out and all workload goals are met.
8.Manages Health Information Management Department in absence of Director and/or Manager of HIM to ensure continuity of operations.
9.Performs other duties as assigned and directed.
10.Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
