Summary

The Healthcare Data Analyst specializes in extracting, transforming, and analyzing data from multiple healthcare-oriented data sources including EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems, State claims data sets, Patient experience data sets and other various healthcare-oriented clinical and business data sets. They play a crucial role in healthcare organizations by providing actionable insights from clinical and operational data. The Healthcare Data Analyst specializes in extracting, transforming, and analyzing data from multiple healthcare-oriented data sources including EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems, State claims data sets, Patient experience data sets and other various healthcare-oriented clinical and business data sets. They play a crucial role in healthcare organizations by providing actionable insights from clinical and operational data.

Responsibilities
  • Extract data from various databases using SAS or SQL queries or other relevant tools.
  • Transform and cleanse data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance for analysis.
  • Develop and execute data analysis strategies to generate actionable insights for clinical, operational, and financial performance improvement.
  • Create meaningful reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Conduct data quality assessments to identify and resolve data discrepancies, errors, or inconsistencies.
  • Implement data validation processes to maintain data integrity.
  • Ensure adherence to data governance policies and procedures, including HIPAA and other relevant healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain documentation of data definitions, metadata, and data lineage.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, IT teams, and end-users to understand data requirements and objectives.
  • Translate business questions into data analysis solutions.
  • Optimize SQL queries and data extraction processes for efficiency and speed.
  • Monitor and improve database performance as needed.
  • Provide training and support to end-users and data consumers, helping them interpret and use data effectively.
  • Assist in troubleshooting data-related issues.
  • Manage data migration projects and data conversion processes when necessary.
  • Stay up-to-date with various data sets, best practices, and industry trends.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance data analytics capabilities.

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in healthcare informatics, health information management, computer science, or a related field

Preferred/Desired: Master's Degree

Experience

Minimum: Three (3) years of experience in healthcare data analysis.

Training

Minimum: Strong knowledge of healthcare data standards and terminologies (e.g., ICD-10, CPT).

Preferred/Desired: Familiarity with EPIC, claims data, and patient experience data sets a plus. Understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements, including HIPAA.

Special Skills
  • Proficiency in SAS and/or SQL and data querying languages.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to data accuracy and security.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Project management skills for handling data analysis projects.
