Summary Provides professional, administrative and educational oversight at the core clinical site for clinical faculty and others engaged in the medical education of BUCOM students. Participates with the administration of the University in development and implementation of policies concerning student and clinical faculty. Recruits clinical preceptors and assists in completing the credentialing and contracting process as needed. Supports the University's Faculty Development activities and the assessment of students, preceptors, and the clinical site. Oversees the scheduling of students assigned to the core clinical site. Acts as a liaison between the core site administration, preceptors, and the University.
Responsibilities 1. Participates in the training, supervision, and continued development of clinical preceptors.
2. Collaborate with hospital administration and preceptors to promote the highest quality of medical education available to the COM's students.
3. Assists in physician recruitment to establish and develop the clinical sites and preceptors.
4. Collaborate with BUCOM to develop and implement a high quality medical education curriculum and clinical experiences for BUCOM medical students.
5. Monitor and address academic or disciplinary problems arising with third-year students.
6. Collaborate with BUCOM to support faculty development, assessment, and improvement programs for clinical faculty at the location.
7. Serve as liaison between hospital administration, clinical faculty, and BUCOM administration, faculty, and students.
8. Collaborate with BUCOM Director of Faculty Development and Continuing Medical Education to promote faculty growth and development through educational programs and seminars, whether online or live at the location.
9. Strengthen relationships among faculty and University through fostering of timely and efficient communication with mutual respect and understanding.
10. Maintain open communication and regular correspondence with BUCOM regarding student medical education program.
Requirements, Preferences and Experience DO or MD degree with AOA or ABMS board certification or board eligibility in designated clinical field, or terminal degree in a related or academically appropriate area from an accredited institution.
Demonstrates basic currency with trends, issues, and practices in the profession or discipline.
Unrestricted certification/licensure to teach/practice in the State of Tennessee; if DO or MD, must have ability to obtain an active and unrestricted medical license in the state where clinical activities occur.
