Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility
Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility
Patrols and protects the entire campus, inside and outside; responds to all incidents or calls relating to the safety and security of all persons and property on the campus. Officers are expected to demonstrate exemplary customer service skills and maintain a professional appearance while serving as ambassadors of the organization. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:  
  • Patrols the entire campus for the purpose of deterring crime and initiating corrective actions on any physical security or safety hazards identified.
  • Provides customer service to our patients, visitors, and employees carrying out safety and security procedures, site-specific policies and when appropriate, emergency response activities.
  • Responds to all calls for disruptive behavior, disturbances, and combative patients, and incidents, as well as internal or external alarms.
  • Understands, complies, and enforces hospital policy and procedure. As needed, enforces State and Local laws/ordinances to ensure the safety and security of all persons and property on campus.
  • Submits all necessary reports in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Performs escorts related to money transfers, as directed by facility policy. Will secure patient valuables upon request. Will perform non-monetary escorts for staff, visitors, physicians, and patients upon request for the safety and security of the requesting party.
  • Controls all parking on the property, emphasizing parking in critical and/or emergency parking areas.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols around the facility and completes assigned goals.

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education
Knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to completion of 4 years of high school, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

 

Minimum Experience
Ability to obtain knowledge of the University policies, procedures, and practices in security, detain and search, emergency situations as acquired through a 90 day on the job training.

 

 

Minimum Licensure, Registration, Certification
DRIVER'S LICENSE (CURRENT), TN armed guard training and certification. Possess or have the ability to obtain First aid, CPR, De-escalation techniques, proper and safe restraints techniques, armed guard training and registration, OC or Pepper Spray, Baton Certification.

Physical Requirements 
Physically able to drive. Physically able to detain and subdue disorderly persons and the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time on a continuous basis. Work requires light physical exertion on a frequent basis or continuous walking; or moderate physical exertion on an occasional basis; or heavy physical exertion on an intermittent basis.

Continuous exposure to outdoor conditions while patrolling. May involve frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable element; may involve exposure to variety of elements which are potentially hazardous or harmful which require exercise of well defined precautions for protection from injury or illness. May possibly be exposed to blood or other body fluids when restraining an individual or detaining them.

Enforces the BHSU security rules, policies, and procedures and detains suspects under the Tennessee Law as it becomes necessary in the support of the mission. Maintain good standings on required certifications and licensures. Enforces the University policies and procedures.Detains suspects in accordance with state and local ordinances.Maintain and provide current certifications and licensure support documents upon request. Serves as a resource for facilitating University communication by processing and receiving information and disseminating information to the appropriate department, individual, or student. Serve as campus dispatch providing appropriate information to other departmental staff on duty. 1. Uses University computers, software, phones, fax machines, copier, overhead paging, digital beeper as directed.2. Prepares reports as directed using University computer and software.3. Appropriately sorts and routes departmental mail and deliveries.4. Reports all pertinent information concerning front desk shift events to appropriate administration.5. Supervises all entry to and exiting from the buildings to ensure appropriate use of University ID cards.6. Controls traffic in the area of Parking and other critical loading zones by enforcing University parking policies to ensure compliance. Facilitate equipment checks including safety/emergency devices as well as security equipment.
